Melissa Henchen has over 8 years of professional experience with four legged pets as well as a childhood upbringing around numerous farm and domestic animals that allowed for her desire and passion to help those in need. She recently completed her Karen Pryor Clicker Academy Training Foundations course and is working towards additional certification.
From a beginning in 4H with goats to independent horse riding and caring lessons it was clear that Melissa was passionate about finding any avenue to express her love for animals whenever possible.
The dog rescue has taken Melissa in a very large role advocating for the animals in need. She still fosters dogs from shelters when in need, and works on obedience and responsible pet ownership with the future dog owners during the adoption process. With over 600 foster pets in her home over the past 7 years she can certainly feel confident that your pet will be cared for properly.
Melissa also has experience in the shelter world, as Executive Director she was able to learn more and more about the human animal bond and the true need for services beyond shelters. The need for support and resources for pet owners to retain pet ownership. She was also looking for a way to teach others about positive reinforcement and show how you can get results using fun instead of force.
Her dog Walrus, a mastiff who suffered from severe separation anxiety was a main drive in her learning how to help dogs in training. He has successfully taught her more about dogs who have anxiety and how to overcome the challenges it may face.
Her passion and drive are astounding and the pets that have crossed her path are thankful.
About us

Melissa takes great care of my baby every time I have to leave!

My dogs have boarded there several times and I drive from Rochester. Plenty of love and playtime that is occasionally posted on Facebook. Reasonable and safe. Melissa even works with them on obedience while they are there. Highly recommend.
